Poppy – The Only Dog in Samoa on a Lead!

Poppy is a 3-year-old Cocker Spaniel, born in Wellington and raised in Blenheim. 8 months ago, she moved to Samoa to be with her lovely owners Robyn and Grant, who bought a business there in 2022. It took 10 months to gain permission from all the village chiefs to allow Poppy to come over. She now lives a luxurious life of almost constant interaction with holiday guests, staff, and locals. Every dog’s dream!!

We recently spent a week in Samoa at the beautiful Savai’i Lagoon Resort on the less populated island of Samoa, Savai’i. What bliss! A beautiful beach, super friendly locals, incredible snorkelling, divine food, and hot tropical sunshine. A very laid-back and relaxing way to start our New Zealand winter!

Poppy added to the charm of our stay. She seems to have adapted easily to the change in temperature and pace of life. It was so lovely to see how super excited she got when meeting guests who go there for several weeks and get to know her really well.

Robyn is strict with Poppy’s diet. She imports dry dog food from New Zealand, as well as flea and worm treatment. Local villagers are not aware of the dangers of feeding onion, garlic, or fatty foods to dogs, so Robyn has been great at educating them with regards to Poppy. The closest Vet is a 2-hour drive and 90-minute ferry journey away, so preventative healthcare is really important. Poppy is regularly clipped and groomed by Grant.
