Socialisation and training for puppies, education for owners.
The early stages of any dog’s life are incredibly important. It is during this time that we introduce your puppy to stimuli, activities and environments they are likely to encounter in everyday life. This period is the optimum time for puppies to learn healthy socialisation practices with other dogs and humans.
Halifax Vet Puppy Preschool is a 5 week course for puppies aged between 8 – 16 weeks. Over this period we assist you in teaching basic commands to your puppy using reward based training, laying the groundwork for you to go on and train your pooch in whatever discipline you desire. We also cover owner education on a wide range of topics such as housetraining, bathing and skincare, nutrition, neutering, first aid and parasite control.
Attendees meet at the Clinic on either a Wednesday or Thursday evening (depending on what night you are assigned to) at 6.30pm. The full course is $100 and includes all classes, follow-up support and advise (from our Canine Behaviourist, Sandy Fitzgerald), some puppy-friendly products and a graduation certificate.
Puppies are eligible for Puppy Preschool after they have had their first lot of vaccinations. All family members are welcome.
This course is run by our qualified Canine Behaviourist, Sandy Fitzgerald and Vet Nurse Hannah F. Sandy not only offers Canine Behavioural advice and Modification programmes but also has the practical skills needed to enable her to work more closely with owners and their dogs by providing a Day Training service for those of you struggling to achieve the desired positive behavioural results on your own. These services are tailored to Enlighten, empower, and enable owners to have a major positive influence and impart in the life of their dog and ensuing behaviour.
